Once a potter went to the jungle to dig and get the mud for making the pots. While he was digging, he found a shining stone with exquisite colors. He took the stone and wore it around his neck like a pendant. He was very happy to have this new necklace.
When he was returning back, a Jeweler was passing who saw this shining stone in the potter’s neck. He realized that it was no ordinary stone but a very precious diamond. He thought of fooling the potter and getting the diamond for cheap. He asked the potter –
“Will you sell this stone to me?” The potter said, “the price will be 100 rupees.”. The Jeweler tried to negotiate and said – “I’ll give you 50 rupees”. The potter declined the offer.
The Jeweler left and the potter continued on his path. A little further another Jeweler passed by and saw the potter with this shining stone hanging around his neck. He asked the potter if he would sell this stone to him and what the cost would be. The potter told the prize as 1000 rupees. The Jeweler paid the potter and bought the stone.
After some time, the first Jeweler returned back and asked the potter –
“Where is that stone? Did you sell it?”. To which the Potter replied, “Yes, I sold it for 1000 rupees”.
Hearing this, the Jeweler was shocked and shouted at the potter angrily –
“Are you mad, that was a very precious and high value diamond and you sold it for just 1000 rupees!?”
The Potter reacted –
“I’m not mad, you are mad, I did not know the real value of the stone, for me it was just a nice shining stone and I sold it for 1000 rupees. You knew the real value of this stone and yet for just 50 rupees, you let go of the diamond which was worth crores!”

Like in this story, our life is like a precious diamond. If we do not realize its true value and be ignorant about it, we will lose this precious human life.
We end up spending most of our life in accumulating material wealth and possessions that we have to leave behind when we die. So what did we really achieve?
Shouldn’t our goal and efforts be to find our inner self, our spiritual growth and ultimately to reach enlightenment? It is only as humans that can we strive for this
